It has been nearly three years since I got my first car, a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox LT. Since it was my first car, it was not tricked out with all of the bells and whistles like heated leather seats, but it did at least have updated safety features like a backup camera on which I rely on heavily. Actually, there’s a list of features my Chevrolet Equinox LT has that I will love and miss that I must have on the next SUV that I choose.
My Favorite Features of the Chevrolet Equinox LT
Backup Camera
They say once you become a mom you get eyes at the back of your head, that is exactly what having a backup camera on your car is like. I like the security of having a feature that aids in reducing the risk of reversing over or into something/someone that might otherwise be unseen behind the vehicle. It’s been a lifesaver when parking, especially on New York City’s busy streets.
Monthly Diagnostics Report
Every month, my OnStar account (Basic is provided for free) gives an automatic check of my Chevrolet Equinox LT and sends via email a monthly Diagnostics Report. The report contains everything from tire pressure, oil percentage, emissions and more. Receiving monthly reports like this allow me to stay on top of my vehicle’s maintenance, thus maximizing my Equinox’s performances.
Child Safety Lock Switch
Convenience sells. Not having to take out my key to stick it in the rear passenger door to activate the child safety is a godsend. I love that the Child Safety Lock Switch allows me to easily control the child safety lock on the rear passenger doors directly from the control panel. Its convenient placement allows me to unlock the safety lock when I have adults in the backseat, and re-lock it with the press of a button when our daughter is riding with me.
Remote Vehicle Management
I absolutely love being able to remote start my Chevrolet Equinox LT from my iPhone via the myChevrolet Mobile App. I like the idea of not having to be near my car to start it. Say, for instance, I am out to dinner, and my car is parked a few blocks away, I can start my Chevrolet Equinox LT right from the restaurant, and be welcomed by a warm car once dinner is over. Additionally, I am known for misplacing my car keys. The myChevrolet Mobile App allows me to unlock and lock my car from my phone. Pretty awesome, don’t you think?
Spacious Interior
For a compact SUV, the Chevrolet Equinox LT has a roomy interior. The height of the ceilings is perfect, and the roomy rear seats making it perfect for the many road trips we’ve taken. One of the things that sold my husband and me on the Equinox was the ability of the rear seats to slide fore and aft, which allows for more cargo space or increase rear legroom. It was the most legroom we’ve seen in the rear of similar compact SUVs.
Fuel Efficiency
My 2014 Chevrolet Equinox LT is a four-cylinder compact SUV. Another one of the things that sold us on getting it, aside from its price was that it is great on gas. The Equinox LT boasts 22 MPG on the street and 32 MPG on the highway. I can drive 130 miles or more during my five-day work week and not move the gas gauge below the half tank mark. To me, that’s impressive. Less money spent on gas, and more money spent on things that I like to do such as travel and dine out.
The Equinox also has an “Eco Mode”, which is supposed to help increase its fuel efficiency (Eco Mode = +1 mpg). I use it often when I am driving on local roads that require more stopping.
Although I am going to miss my 2014 Chevrolet Equinox LT, I am looking forward to upgrading to a newer SUV that has all of my favorite features I’ve listed in this post, and then some. This mama needs heated seats and a heated steering wheel. Look out for my post on My Must-have Features for my Next SUV.
