I’ve gone through many air purifiers to ensure my family and I are breathing in clean air. Our air quality is affected by many things like dust, mold, and even the perfume and cleaning solutions we use. Air pollutants can increase the risk of cancer as well as respiratory disease. Studies suggest cancer risks for pollutants emitted indoors – specifically volatile organic compounds (VOCs) – were higher in houses with lower ventilation rates. As a result of this, I’ve made sure each of us has an air purifier in our bedrooms. Not just any air purifier, but one of the best air purifiers on the market.

While I’ve used quite a few air purifiers, the one I am most happy with is the AirDoctor 2000. The AirDoctor brand is one of the top-rated air purification systems on the market. Being a mom of a middle schooler and a toddler, one of my main goals is to keep them healthy. Kids are germ magnets, plus, most of us suffer from seasonal allergies, so having an effective air purification system like the air doctor is important.
What is AirDoctor?
As an AirDoctor affiliate, I was provided the AirDoctor 2000. It is a professional-quality air purification system suitable for 251 sq. ft. – 305 sq. ft. rooms. I currently have it in my 200 sq. ft. bedroom. While I own the AirDoctor 2000, there are three additional models from which to choose: AirDoctor 1000, AirDoctor 3000, and AirDoctor 5000. All AirDoctor models work the same, however, the model numbers are based on the room size. When purchasing an air purifier, you want to ensure you’re getting the appropriate one for the size of the room in which you’re using. I love that AirDoctor makes it easy to choose the proper system for your needs. AirDoctor, being the best air purifier, cleans the air in a room 4 times per hour, or every 15 minutes using a WhisperJet fan.
What does the AirDoctor remove from the air?
The AirDoctor air purifier, due to its UltraHEPA filters, is able to remove and filter out ultra-fine contaminants like dust, pollen, mold spores, smoke, pet hair, dander, bacteria, and viruses. The HEPA standard requires that 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns are captured.
Laboratory testing demonstrated that the AirDoctor 2000 removed 99.99% of bacteria and viruses, including H1N1 (Swine flu), and 99.97% of the live SARS-CoV-2 virus from the air in a test chamber.
How long does the AirDoctor filter last?
One of the things I like about the AirDoctor is that the filters do not have to be changed monthly. The carbon filter should be changed every six months (under normal use) for best performance. It’s recommended to vacuum the filters every couple of months to ensure clean air circulation and to maximize the AirDoctor’s performance.
How to choose the best air purifier for your needs
When it comes to air purifiers, you want to look at three things.
- True HEPA filtration – HEPA, which stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Air, is a designation used to describe filters that are able to trap 99.97 percent of particles that are 0.3 microns. You don’t want to use air purifiers that promise “HEPA-like” or “HEPA-style” filtration.
- Carbon Filter – Check for an additional carbon filter that helps to remove odors, gases, and VOCs, since HEPA filters don’t do this.
- CADR ratings – the clean air delivery rating (CADR) describes the volume of clean air that an air purifier produces on its highest speed setting. The higher the CADR, the faster and more efficient the air purifier is.
How long should you leave your air purifier on?
Before I knew any better I was turning off my air purifier anytime I was not in the room it was in. Then I learned that air purifiers work best at keeping the air clean when they run continuously. Now that I think about it, it makes complete sense.
What I love about the AirDoctor 2000
You can see it working
Do you know how you can’t tell if it is doing its job with some air purifiers? Well, with the AirDoctor you can tell when it is working to remove any nastiness from the air. I’ve noticed that when I am cleaning (sweeping, dusting, vacuuming) it goes into overdrive. I can hear it working and each AirDoctor, regardless of the model you have, has a circular indicator that lights up – red (bad air quality), orange (poor air quality), blue (good air quality) – to let you know the quality of the air in the room.
- Quiet on the lowest setting
- TrueHEPA filtration
- Additional Carbon/VOC filter
- You know when it’s working
- Light to show you when to change the filter
- High CADR ratings in comparison to other top brands
- Auto mode which automatically adjusts the fan speed according to the contaminants in the air
- Nighttime mode – no blue light while you’re sleeping
- Toddler proof – the buttons can be locked
- Modern and attractive design
- Price – much cheaper than other high-quality air purifiers (you can get $300 off with this link!)
Should you buy an AirDoctor?
Absolutely! The AirDoctor has been one of the best air purifiers I’ve used to date. It does exactly what it is supposed to do: keep the air in my home clean. Its UltraHEPA filtration is one of the best in the industry, and it has an additional carbon filter to handle VOCs and gases versus other purifiers that lack an additional carbon filter. In addition to having one of the highest CADR ratings, this sets AirDoctor apart from the rest. AirDoctor is a brand that believes everyone deserves access to clean air at an affordable price. I love that they are transparent and regularly provide third-party validation for the different types of airborne pollutants their purifiers filter.
I intend to purchase additional purifiers for our lower level where our living room, dining, and kitchen are. Since it’s somewhat of an open floor plan, and over 500 sq. ft., I’d more than likely need a larger model, like the AirDoctor 5000.
Which size should you purchase?
The air purifier should suit the size of the room you intend on using it. Yes, you should have an air purifier in each room, especially the bedroom. The general rule is to have one in a room where there is a door. In general, if there’s a doorway, you will need a new air purifier in that room. If you’re in between two sizes, go with the larger size so you have a higher rotation of the air in the room. Here’s my cheat sheet:
- AirDoctor 1000: suitable for bedrooms, offices, and smaller spaces
- AirDoctor 2000: best for small/medium bedrooms and high-traffic rooms like offices and nurseries (most popular model)
- Air Doctor 3000: best for studios, offices, master bedrooms, kitchens, and living spaces
- Air Doctor 5000: suitable for 1-bedroom apartments, larger living spaces, open concept areas, and garages
