Pregnancy makes our bodies go through many changes that can lead to pregnancy discomfort. During pregnancy, we suffer from aches and pains, lack of sleep, ill-fitting and uncomfortable clothing, and more. While not every woman experiences every pregnancy-related discomfort, I am sharing ways to Help Keep You Comfortable During Pregnancy that has personally worked for me.
1. Make Your Bra More Comfortable During Pregnancy
As our bodies change during pregnancy our clothes and undergarments become less comfortable. For me, during this pregnancy wearing a bra started to become uncomfortable around the 16-week mark. I could barely last a full workday without wanting to just take off my bra! It was so uncomfortable. And then I remembered that I used a bra band extender during my pregnancy with my daughter. Trust me, these things are a lifesaver. The best part about it is you don’t have to spend extra money on bras.
2. Keep Hydrated
I know, running back and forth to the bathroom is already a task; however, decreasing your intake of fluids during pregnancy can actually increase pregnancy discomfort. How? By reducing your intake of fluids, you are more prone to dehydration which can lead to constipation or even painful contractions or preterm labor. The latter is something we especially do not want, as the goal of every pregnancy is to go full-term (40 weeks). Make sure you’re drinking at least half of your body weight in water daily. If you experience signs of dehydration, drink fluids containing electrolytes.
3. Prevent Pregnancy-Induced Constipation
Constipation can lead to pregnancy discomfort. Trust me, I know. Everything is mushed up into one tight space and hormones make everything move slower. It isn’t fun. However, increasing your fiber intake along with keeping hydrated help. I’ve also found that drinking at least one 8 oz. cup of warm prune juice before helps makes things move a lot faster if you know what I mean.

4. Reduce Heartburn During Pregnancy
In addition to constipation, heartburn during pregnancy can be a pain, literally. But you can prevent it through simple changes in your eating habits. My gastroenterologist recommended that I not eat after 8:00 PM. I’ve also been told that if I do eat, to sit upright for at least one to two hours after eating, and to try sleeping with your head in an upright position. In addition to that, avoid heartburn-inducing foods like spicy foods and acidic food.
