Summer means a lot of our family time is spent outdoors.  After spending the better part of the fall and winter cooped up indoors, heading outside for summer fun is just what the doctor ordered. But, sometimes outdoor fun can be a pain, especially if you’re in areas populated with pesky mosquitoes, which means annoying, itchy bites. And let’s not forget the risks of mosquito-borne viruses like Zika, West Nile, Dengue and others that we have to avoid.  This is why our family has been using Guardian DEET-Free Insect Repellant to keep us mosquito bite-free all summer long.

Outdoor summer fun GUARDIAN DEET-Free Insect Repellant

Guardian DEET-free Insect Repellant is a plant-based, non-toxic mosquito and tick repellant serving as an alternative to chemical- heavy insect repellants.  Guardian claims that their products work better than DEET repellants. Having used both types, but switched to plant-based repellants once we began trying to conceive, and then having our daughter, plant-based repellants have been a staple during summer outings or vacations to tropical climates where mosquitoes run rampant.  However, not all plant-based insect repellants are made equal. There are some that do not offer as much protection as they claim.

Guardian DEET-Free Insect Repellant

Guardian DEET-free insect repellant is offered in two (2) formulas: Guardian Backyard and Guardian Wilderness. This summer, we’ve used both formulas.  I’ve sent mini me to daycare with a bottle of the Guardian Backyard, which offers up to 4-hours of protection, making it perfect for her daytime school outings. For when our family has our little backyard shindigs or just random relaxing and fun moments in our backyard, there is always a bottle of the Guardian Wilderness formula that offers up to 8-hours of protection against insect bites. I can tell you that the mosquitoes in our backyard and neighborhood are vicious, but when using the Guardian DEET-free insect repellant we did not get a single bite. That’s impressive!

Guardian Deet-Free Insect Repellants

Parents like myself that wish to use more natural products for their families will love this non-toxic repellant. The formula of the Guardian DEET-free insect repellant isn’t sticky nor greasy. It has a nice vanilla-like fragrance as opposed to a strong chemical scent that most DEET-containing repellants have. Guardian’s plant-based formula is safe for use around your outdoor equipment. DEET, on the other hand, damages and corrodes plastics, nylon gear, and some clothing.

This summer, don’t let bugs keep you and your family from enjoying the warm weather and having fun outdoors. To prevent your next family picnic, hike, vacation or backyard barbecue from being ruined by pesky mosquitoes or ticks, be sure to pack Guardian DEET-free Insect Repellant. Your family will thank you for keeping them safe and bite-free.

  • I love a Deet free option. I usually make our own bug spray but I rarely have the time now. I’ve never heard of this company but I’ll definitely add them to my amazon wish list.

  • Holly

I def know a couple of people who would love to know about this. They are allergic to DEET

The bugs have been having a feast on me this summer! I am all for insect repellant, especially with the mosquitoes issues we have been having lately.

Thanks for the info! For some reason mosquitos love my blood. The worst was in Africa, I awoke to bites all on my face. I need to check the product out for my next trip.

  • i wouldn’t mind a natural solution. I hate the smells of some of the other ones. They make me want to risk it.

  • Tia @ financiallyfitandfab

I agree with Kemkem! I’ll go with anything that keeps the bug bites away.

  • Great review! We use eucalyptus and lemon oil for bug repellant. My daughter and I are the only ones mosquitos love.

  • I am actually excited to see another repellant that is not Off. I am definitely going to try to find this brand.

    • You don’t have to try too hard, just enter for a shot at winning some of your own.

  • Kirstin

I’ve never used a DEET product for mosquito repellent. I’ve always used the AVON product, but I’ll have to give this a try. Thanks for sharing.

  • I guess I didn’t do enough research, but OFF was bae when I went to Colombia. lol Any insect repellent is good for me.

    • My mom swore by OFF and AVON. I prefer more natural products.

Those dang mosquitos!! Haha. I was doing so well this summer, not dealing with one bit…until last week. I dont even know how it happened haha I got like 5 bits! I never wear repellent unless its the 4th of july and I’m out late but I sure do wish I had me some last week!

    • You never wear repellant? I envy you. The mosquitoes love me.

  • I need to get some of this ASAP. My kids love to play in the backyard and the bugs love them so they stay getting bit.

  • Taking notes, I would love a natural remedy for insect spray. I worry about what I put on my skin but I worry about their skin even more. I hate bugs with a passion.

    • I’m not fond of bugs either, especially ones that bite. My mosquito bites swell and bruise. It’s not pretty.

  • Kemkem

Anything to repel insects is okay by me, DEET or no DEET! Given a choice, l would go for the DEET free one :-). Those lies can be so annoying and itchy..

    • I understand, as long as you’re not bitten.
