One thing about pregnancy that I do not enjoy is not getting any rest. This usually happens in the beginning due to frequent urination and/or towards the end because you’re too big to get comfortable and your sleep is also often interrupted by trips to the bathroom. Pregnancy insomnia is a real thing but I’ve found ways to cope. This time around, instead of binging on QVC and HSN, which led to unnecessary purchases or necessary ones like my Vitamix, I’ve been on my Netflix and chill mode.
Here’s a list of my favorite Binge-worthy Netflix Shows to Watch During Pregnancy Insomnia.
Workin’ Moms
This is a relatable sitcom about the lives of four (4) thirty-something-year-old working moms as they navigate motherhood, being a wife, and everything else life throws at you. There were so many things these moms were going through, yes, each of them, that I could relate. Kate and Anne are my favorites.
Starring: Catherine Reitman, Dani Kind, Juno Rinaldi
You
This suspenseful drama is based on the book You by Caroline Kepnes. It was a Lifetime series, but it’s now on Netflix, and it’s very binge-worthy. the mysterious thriller keeps edging toward an inevitable climax you can’t turn away from.
Starring: Penn Badgely, Shay Mitchell, John Stamos
Living With Yourself
I’m a fan of quirky offbeat humor and Paul Rudd, but not necessarily in that order. Living With Yourself is a darkly comic look at a man who is at the end of his rope, only to find that he wants the life he’s missing after he accidentally creates a better version of himself.
Starring: Paul Rudd, Zoe Chao
The Laundromat
The Laundromat is not about people who spend time collecting quarters so they can watch clothes spin around. Although (be honest), you’d watch that, right? No. This is not a show. It’s not even a long movie, but it’s really worth adding to your list of things to stream during pregnancy insomnia. The based-on-real-life story follows the Panama Papers scandal in the catchy and dynamic style of The Informant!
Starring: Merryl Streep. Gary Oldman, Antonio Banderas
Messiah
This provocative political thriller captures the sort of hysteria and turmoil that would happen should a man suddenly show up with the convincing claim that he is the Messiah. The ten (10) episode series focuses on a CIA agent who is in pursuit of a religious leader, who seems to perform miracles and has amassed a large following of people.
Starring: Michelle Monaghan, Mehdi Dehbi, Beau Bridges
Fauda
Hebrew for chaos, Fauda has a lot of chaos. Three (3) seasons of it! Fauda is a gripping and suspenseful action drama about an Israeli agent who comes out of retirement when a Palestinian he thought he’d killed returns.
Starring: Lior Raz, Laetitia Eido, Matt Gotlieb
6 Underground
This is not a show, but it is one exciting movie. It’s about a group of mercenaries who fake their deaths in order to execute their own brand of justice. The film is directed by none other than Michael Bay and follows a team assembled by a “deceased” tech billionaire to assassinate an otherwise untouchable dictator.
Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Melanie Laurent, Corey Hawkins
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Bleak, cynical family comedies are hard to come by, but that’s exactly why this darkly silly series based on the children’s books of the same name happens to be. Unlike the film that precedes it this Series of Unfortunate Events is an actual series, which makes it much more satisfying especially while binge-watching.
Starring: Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Warburton, Malina Weissman

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
This is chilling. Not the Friday Night Sitcom I remember. The intense melodrama and elements of horror are just the thing to keep me glued to my screen. Why are shows based on comics so good at binge-worthy content? They hook me every time another episode closes.
Starring: Kiernan Shipka, Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis
Money Heist
This crime series from Spain will have you glued to the tv/tablet/phone … whatever you watch it on. It’s probably the most epic and binge-worthy Netflix series I have found. Plus, the Emmy winning show has four seasons with one final season on the way.
Starring: Ursula Corbero, Alvaro Morte, Itziar Ituno
Grand Army
This beautifully shot teen drama set in Brooklyn is so gripping and evocative you can’t turn away from it. With only 9 episodes in its first season, I finished it so fast and now I’m waiting for season 2 to get here. The series is all about the struggles of five students in Grand Army High School as they fight to succeed and seize their destinies.
Riverdale
From the same universe as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, this Series derived from Archie comics is a more serious look at the iconic teen characters than what you might expect. The stories span four seasons with a fifth dropping in January 2021. The series pokes at the underbelly of Archies’ small-town environment and explores its dark underpinnings.
Starring: KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes
My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman
Who doesn’t love a good David Letterman interview? If you didn’t know Dave had a show on Netflix, you need to find it and catch up. My favorite episodes of this show were with Dave Chapell and the multi-talented Lizzo which just aired. The interview show is in its third season and there are so many great guests to watch in Letterman’s usual interview style.
Starring: David Letterman, Various Guests
The Santa Clarita Diet
Okay. I love all these shows, but I LOVE the Santa Clarita Diet. So darkly funny and well played. The series spans three seasons and in my opinion, it was over way too quickly. If you are like me, you will have a hard time forcing yourself not to watch all the episodes at once. There’s some gore to the show, but it’s mostly mystery and hilarious reactions to over the top calamity.
Starring: Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant, Liv Hewson
Message from the King
This action thriller is full of mystery and revenge. If you love tracking down the bad guys and making them pay, this is the movie to watch on a sleepless night. This movie was released in 2016 and picked up by Netflix two years later. Although it didn’t get great reviews we can all agree that Chadwick Boseman is great as Jacob King. Since Boseman quickly gained attention for his later role as Black Panther, a lot of people aren’t aware of this movie.
Starring: Chadwick Boseman, Luke Evans, Alfred Molina
Skin Wars
Although I’ve put my makeup artist career on hold – for now – I still enjoy watching shows that let me indulge in my thirst for all things makeup/beauty. One of those shows for me is Skin Wars. I love it because of the intricate detail of some of the body painters. It’s incredible what these artists can do with a body as their canvas. Skin Wars is a contest, so the stars are the judges: Craig Tracy, Rebecca Romijn, RuPaul
Glow up
Another competitive make-up show that helped me get through pregnancy insomnia is Glow Up which is all about finding that next make-up star. I love that the focus is on the artist and not the model. It’s such a compelling angle because makeup artists are capable of doing some really amazing things, but they are usually unsung heroes.
