We’re all for getting away, just getting into our car or hopping on a plane for a change of scenery and climate, even if it is just for a few days. Five years ago, we’d do this as a family. As a new mom, I was petrified of leaving our daughter for even a few hours, but fast forward to now when I’ve learned how important it is for married couples to get away to experience each other’s company together without interruptions, hence our recent road trip to Mount Pocono to Mount Airy Casino Resort in the 2016 Mazda3 S 5-Door Grand Touring. We had a lot of fun together during the three-hour drive to the resort, which helped me to come up with this list of reasons why we believe a couples-only road trip or weekend getaway is important.

Road Tripping as Couple is Time to bond

The 2016 Mazda3 S 5-Door Grand Touring is a car on the smaller side. It’s perfect for a couple’s road trip, and fostering some bonding moments during our three-hour drive up to Mount Pocono. The car had us in close proximity to each other. We were able to hold hands at some points during the drive while chatting and catching up in detail. Things we aren’t really able to do when our daughter is around.

There was no one interrupting your conversation asking if you’re there yet. There’s no one begging to listen to KidzBop on Sirius when you’re jamming to your favorite, sometimes old school tunes while reminiscing on the good ole days. I’ve found that those are the times when you learn new things about your spouse, too. It’s crazy how something as simple as a song can spark a memory.

Road Tripping as a Couple Helps to Build trust

I haven’t had my license for as many years as my husband has had his, and I only have a few long-distance road trips under my belt so for my husband to trust me with his life during this drive took some balls. He wasn’t a backseat driver, and let me do my thing. He played his role well as the co-pilot, and trusted that I’d get us to our destination safely, and I did.

The 2016 Mazda3 S 5-Door Grand Touring is equipped with blind spot monitoring, which came in handy while cruising on the I-80. And we experienced intermittent rain during our drive there and back home, but thankfully the Mazda3 also has rain-sensing windshield wipers that allowed me to keep my eyes on the road and my hands on the steering wheel.

Road Tripping as a Couple Helps to Cultivates Intimacy

Has your spouse ever told you that they don’t feel like you’re understanding them or hearing them? A road trip offers the opportunity for that. You have hours alone with each other to talk about any and everything. Take turns, and listen to each other while giving each other the undivided attention you each deserve. During our road trip we made sure to use the time to share with each other what we thought, how we felt, and share with each other any significant things in our lives right now. And when we got to our destination, we were able to focus on enjoying our trip, and not any baggage that would keep us from enjoying our time together during our trip.

Road Tripping as a Couple Helps to Create New Experiences Together

There are things that I have done while traveling with my husband that I would not have done if we had our daughter with us. This road trip in the 2016 Mazda3 S 5-Door Grand Touring was no different.

This was our first time as a couple visiting a casino resort. I’m happy we were able to experience it together. During our stay we met a new couple that lives near us with whom we plan to keep in touch. We saw Sinbad for the first time, and vowed to see him again.

Road Tripping as a Couple Allows You to Have Fun Together

The 2016 Mazda3 S 5-Door Grand Touring is equipped with SiriusXM Satellite radio, and lets just say that we had our own concert going on in the car. My husband whipping out his invisible microphone while I drive and sing. We didn’t sound great, but we did have fun.

Road tripping as a couple is fun, and a great opportunity to bond and entertain each other while creating new experiences and memories. The 2016 Mazda3 S 5-Door Grand Touring was the perfect car to achieve these things together as a couple. It’s a compact car that offers the intimacy a couple needs when road tripping together, it’s also a safe vehicle with features that allow us to safely keep our attention on each other. It’s also excellent on gas, we didn’t have to stop not once during our trip going or coming to fill the tank
