With being married for a little over five years, we know all too well how important it is to get away and enjoy some alone time together as a couple. This is even more important when a child is involved. Now that our daughter is older, we try our best to take as many vacations together as a couple, even if it is a simple road trip for a weekend getaway like our recent visit to the Mount Airy Casino Resort.
You’re probably wondering is this the Mount Airy from those cheesy commercials back in the day? No it isn’t, that place closed in 2001, and Mount Airy Casino Resort opened in 2007. Making itself the first AAA Four Diamond casino resort in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains. It has 1,800 slot machines and 80 table games. There are 188 luxury hotel rooms with beautiful views of the Pocono Mountains and 18-hole golf course, an indoor/outdoor heated swimming pool, and a 16,000 square foot spa, salon and exercise facility. It also has five restaurants and a Starbucks on site.
After learning about all that Mount Airy Casino Resort has to offer, and it being only 2.5 to 3-hour ride from Nassau County we decided to take advantage of an offer for a two-night stay, and spend quality time together as a couple. We needed it! So one Friday afternoon, we dropped off our daughter to her grandmother, and hit the road in the 2016 Mazda3 Grand Touring.
We arrived to Mount Airy around 7:00 p.m., and around this time the line for complimentary valet parking was pretty long; however, it was well organized so we didn’t sit around too long. The valet staff was courteous, opened our doors, and even offered to help with our bags. I didn’t pack a lot, but my husband did. I have no idea where he thought he was going. We had a laugh about it after we checked-in and got to our room (#630).
Our room at Mount Airy Casino Resort was located on the 6th floor with a view of the golf course and lake. The queen-sized bed was comfy. The room was clean, and we loved the bathroom. The walk-in shower was large enough for the two of us to enjoy showers together. With an intrusive 5-year old we don’t get to do that as much anymore.
After coming off of a 10-day cleanse, and being stuck in traffic, we were excited to finally eat some [solid] food. We made our way down to Guy Fieri’s Mount Pocono Kitchen, which luckily for us is open 24-hours. We kicked off the start of our couple’s weekend with a drink each: a Cadillac Margarita for me, and a Victory Brewery Golden Monkey for the husband. We both enjoyed the appetizers we selected. The Brisket Tacos were good, and could have been a meal on its own, and my husband enjoyed his hot wings.
Guy Fieri’s is also the place where we’d have breakfast during our weekend getaway.
The next morning, after we had breakfast, my husband went back up to the room to do work while I headed to the spa for a massage. That’s an even exchange, right? The massage was really nice. The masseuse was attentive to my needs, and I enjoyed the massage so much that I fell asleep. Now that’s a great massage!
The spa has a sauna and steam room. There’s even a lounge to relax after treatments where guests can sip on tea, and/or spa water, or even chat it up with other guests. Thank God for this room because I would have never met Bridgitte of Black Bridal Bliss and her husband.
We later took a tour of Mount Airy Casino Resort with them, and eventually had dinner at Bistecca by Il Mulino.
Bistecca by IL MULINO combines its heritage of hand-crafted pasta, local seafood and farm-fresh vegetables prepared in the classic fashion of Abruzzo’s cuisine with the comforts of a modern Steakhouse, it’s meticulously selected meats hand-cut by our Executive Chef and it’s skillfully appointed Wine menu featuring the very best varietals from around the world.
Bistecca by Il Mulino was the perfect setting for our [double] date night, and mood-setting prelude to seeing Sinbad perform at Gypsy’s the onsite club and showroom. Sinbad was hilarious. We definitely enjoyed his show, and would see him again. We were surprised at how much we actually enjoyed his jokes.
There was an after party at WET, the indoor pool. We stopped by for a bit, but we were too exhausted to stay. Plus, we had to take advantage of as much uninterrupted rest as possible. But, if we ever make it back to Mount Airy, at least we know that even if we aren’t overnight guests we have pool access with a purchase of a $15 day pass. However, an adult hotel guest must accompany children only. For Non-Hotel Guest Day Passes you must be 21 years or older.
We enjoyed our weekend getaway, and can’t wait to do it all over again, and soon! If you’re a parent of a five-year old you can understand why we emphasize soon. We were able to enjoy each other’s time uninterrupted, relax, eat good food, and even make new friends.
Mount Airy Casino Resort has pretty much everything a couple needs for a weekend getaway. Whether you’re into gambling, looking to relax, enjoy a romantic meal, or even a show, Mount Airy Casino Resort has something for you. The best part is that the resort is less than 90 minutes from Philadelphia, New York City and northern New Jersey.
There’s just one thing we think you should be cautious of if you’re sensitive to cigarette smoke or if you’re pregnant. The casino and restaurants are on the same floor. Although the side of the casino that’s closest to the restaurants is non-smoking, cigarette smoke can be smelled throughout the floor.
