Since being married and becoming a mom, all of our travels have been either couple or family-oriented. It was literally years – at least a decade – since I’d taken a trip away with my girls. We went from going away a few times a year together to not at all. When my best friend asked me to join her and another of our friends in the Bahamas during July 4th weekend I, with some hesitation, booked it. I mean, it only cost me a few JetBlue points and $5.80. If I’d decided to back out I wasn’t at a complete loss, but I am happy that I went. This momma/wife needed this trip. If you’re like me, a mom and wife who can sometimes get lost in juggling so many things at once, you deserve a girlfriends getaway.

Here are the Top 5 Reasons Why Moms Need a Girlfriend Getaway
Much Needed ‘Me’ Time
Every mom and wife needs some time to alone to destress, clear her mind, and actually put herself first. A girlfriend getaway will spend most of their lives putting our children and our partners first. A girls’ weekend away gives you the chance to put yourself first. Your hardest decisions are pool or beach, cocktail or wine! It is pure escapism from everyday life and it will help you destress – sure it’s practically a wellness trip!

Quality time with your friends
Remember I said my friends and I went from taking girl’s trips a few times a year to none, well there was a lot to catch up on. Two of us are married with kids and one isn’t. It doesn’t mean we don’t have anything in common, it means our schedules are all over the place. Taking this girlfriend getaway gives moms time to talk, catch up, and reconnect. We did a lot of that by the pool, on the beach, and during dinner. We laughed, cried, and had fun.
Fosters Bonding with Father & Children
My husband works a lot, which means he doesn’t get to spend much quality time with our daughter. Taking a “momcation” with my girls was a great way for him and my daughter to get in some bonding time. While I was away, he sent me pictures of the activities they were doing without me. They actually had fun without me, guys! They did a workshop at Home Depot, went to the movies, etc. I know the fear is they will not survive without you. They will. They enjoyed each other’s time, they ate, they had fun, and they lived without mom around.
Ditch the Routine!
When we plan family vacations we usually create an itinerary we sort of stick to. However, for our girlfriend’s getaway, we didn’t have a set itinerary, we just went with the flow. We woke up whenever we wanted, fed ourselves whenever we wanted. Doing simple things like that makes a mom like me happy.
Get Dressed Up
Any time I go out I tend to dress up, but there’s something different about hanging out with your girls that brings dressing up to the next level. We got dressed up to go to our friend’s parties, to hang out at the Skybar, and for our last dinner together. The best part about dressing up is that it created opportunities for mini photoshoots. Our best ones were taken on a beach and in the hallway of our hotel. It was fun!
Go ahead mom, don’t feel guilty, plan your girlfriend’s getaway! You will return to your family refreshed, stress-free, and they’ll even know what it is like to miss you.
