A Weekend in the City That Never Sleeps

A few months ago, my family of four embarked on a weekend trip to New York City. With my husband, our preteen, lively 3-year-old, and myself, we were eager to explore the vibrant energy of the city once again. This was our second stay at the Hyatt Centric Midtown 5th Avenue, and we were excited to see what new experiences awaited us.

My husband went ahead of us ad set up some surprises for his favorite girls.

Checking into Comfort

Upon arrival, we were delighted to find that our room on the 9th floor was a spacious 275 sq foot corner queen room, which is quite a rarity in the bustling streets of New York City. The comfortable bed easily accommodated the four of us, and we couldn’t help but wonder how luxurious it would have felt with just one or two occupants. A decent-sized desk below the television provided the perfect spot to enjoy a meal or get some work done if needed.

The real highlight, however, was the blackout curtains that adorned the large windows. These curtains worked like magic, allowing us to sleep peacefully without any disturbance from the early morning light. I made a mental note to get some for our home!

Spacious Bathroom

The bathroom was another pleasant surprise, offering ample space, which is a rarity in NYC hotels. The walk-in shower with a refreshing rain showerhead was a delight, especially after a long day of sightseeing. There was plenty of storage space below the sink to keep our essentials organized. The lighted circular mirror proved to be ideal for applying makeup, helping to ensure we were picture-perfect the whole weekend.

Indulging in In-Room Dining at the Hyatt Centric Midtown

While we rarely order room service during our travels, this time was an exception. My husband had work commitments, and I didn’t want to venture out late at night with the kids in tow. To my surprise, he treated me to a delightful in-room dining experience from the hotel’s onsite restaurant, Ramerino Italian Prime.

Considering my vegetarian/pescatarian diet, my husband ordered a delectable array of dishes. The Pappardelle, with its wild mushrooms, truffle oil, demi-glace sauce, and goat cheese, was a good choice, though it didn’t particularly wow me. However, my toddler loved the mushrooms, which was an unexpected delight.

The homemade Gnocchi with pesto sauce and Pecorino Romano DOP was a personal favorite, and it paired exceptionally well with the Polpo Alla Griglia – grilled octopus on a chickpea puree, cherry tomatoes, arugula, and lemon dressing. My little one even enjoyed the intriguing texture of the octopus tentacles. The only minor flaw was that the dish leaned towards the saltier side.

Knowing how much I love margaritas, and probably considering I’m dealing with two small children in a tight space, my husband also ordered me a margarita. It served as the perfect refreshment after a long day.
