This summer, get your saddles ready because an epic animated adventure – Spirit Untamed – is coming to theaters on June 4th. DreamWorks Animation, along with director Elaine Bogan and producer Karen Foster joined reigns in putting together the next chapter in the story of Spirit, the wild horse. This upcoming animated movie tells the story of a headstrong girl named Lucky Prescott (Isabela Merced) longing for a place to belong who discovers a kindred spirit when her life intersects with a wild horse.
Spirit Untamed – A Lucky Girl Finds Herself and Her Heritage in a Wild Horse
Lucky never really knew her late mother, Milagro Navarro (Eiza González), a fearless horse-riding stunt performer from Miradero, a small town on the edge of the wide-open frontier.
Like her mother, Lucky isn’t exactly a fan of rules and restrictions, which has caused her Aunt Cora (Academy Award® winner Julianne Moore) no small amount of worry. Lucky has grown up in an East Coast city under Cora’s watchful eye, but when Lucky presses her own luck with one too many risky escapades, Cora picks up stakes and moves them both back to Miradero with Lucky’s father, Jim (Oscar® nominee Jake Gyllenhaal).
Small towns are not impressive for a city girl like Lucky. But when she meets a wild Mustang whose spirit matches hers, she changes her mind about little ole Miradero. With a horse and two new friends who happened to be horseriders, Lucky has found her place. She now has freedom and a sense of purpose. And has discovered an unexpected connection to her mother’s legacy and to her Mexican heritage.
These new friends come in handy when a heartless horse wrangler and his team plan to capture Spirit and his herd. Why? They just want to auction them off leaving Spirit and his heard to live a life of captivity and hard labor. In order to rescue Spirit, Lucky and her new friends bravely embark on the adventure of a lifetime.
