For my husband’s birthday getaway, I chose the four-star boutique hotel, Room Mate Anna in L’Eixample due to its proximity to Passeig de Gràcia where all of the shops and restaurants are located, and Casa Batlló. The hotel, as I mentioned in my previous post, is in the perfect location, making it easy for us to immerse ourselves in the culture and vibes of Barcelona for the week we were there.
Room Mate Anna is a uniquely decorated 81-room hotel with an oceanic theme. The modern décor is quirky, to say the least. The walls feature wallpaper with an assortment of fish, and for some reason, the blowfish is what is stuck in my mind.
The Room
Our home for our week-long couples getaway to Barcelona was the deluxe room 404 in all of its red glory. It was clean and it had a comfy King-sized bed. There was floor to ceiling red closets, with a contrasting black and white cloud ceiling. Our headboard, which was also red, featured a coral sculpture. The sconces were in the shape of seashells. Although not my normal taste, it was something different, definitely quirky, and fun. Sometimes it is good to switch it up, you know?
One of our favorite things about our room was the view from the balcony. We could see the Gucci store on the corner and Casa Batlló.
The room also had regular amenities like a flat screen television, mini fridge, safe and hair dryers. The hotel provided robes and hotel branded slippers. I thought that the his and hers toiletries were a cute touch. The things they provided, like the shower cap, came in handy because I forgot to pack one.
The Bathroom
The rooms are not that big, about 215 square feet x 240 square feet; therefore the configuration of the bathroom for the space, is a bit weird, but it worked for us. The sink is at the entry way, while the toilet and walk-in shower is across from the bed behind the red wall with the mirror. We did not have any issues, but if you are concerned about privacy while someone is using the toilet and you are in the shower, then this may be an issue. We have been married for almost eight years, so it didn’t bother us.
The Staff
Great customer service is something that I always look for, especially when it comes to hotels. The Room Mate Anna hotel staff (Gabbi, Sergi, Eva) were beyond amazing.
Gabbi is a foodie so he confirmed my restaurant choice – 9 Reinas – to celebrate my husband’s birthday was going to be great, and it was! So definitely go to 9Reinas if you love steak. He also gave us a list of other restaurants and tapas places we should try (read about them here). They informed us of the tourist traps to avoid and helped to set up activities. They even provided my husband a bottle of cava for his birthday. And because the hotel is on the smaller side, the staff got familiar with us quickly and knew our names, which made our stay feel a lot more personable.
Free Mi-Fi Device
Room Mate Anna is the first hotel I have ever stayed while abroad that provided a personal mi-fi device. This was great, especially since my husband and I were away from our daughter for about one week. The mi-fi device allowed us to stay connected to her during our trip. It also allowed us to roam the streets of Barcelona without getting lost; we were able to use maps on our phones making it easier to get around.
After our first full day in Barcelona, I realized how good of a choice I made by choosing to stay at Room Mate Anna. It is the perfect hotel for couples exploring Barcelona due to its proximity to luxury shops, restaurants, public transportation, and more. The balcony gives the best city views, and imagine waking up to see Gaudí’s work every morning? Simply Priceless! Plus, the service from the staff made us feel like we were staying with friends. So if you are ever in Barcelona, book a room at Room Mate Anna. You will not regret it. We can’t wait to go back!
