Memorial Day weekend is the kick-off of summer activities for most families like barbecuing, traveling, outdoor play and swimming. The latter makes May the perfect month to focus on learning to swim and swim safety, especially since it is when most pools begin to open.
Learning to swim is an important skill for everyone to learn and have under their belt. You never know when you will have to use it. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages one to 14.
I must admit that even though I do not like to swim, I did learn from an early age, and as a parent, I understand how important it is for my daughter to learn to swim along with the skills to keep her safe in the water. Thankfully, my daughter is the complete opposite of me, she loves the water. Her classes at Goldfish Swim School – Garden City allow her to learn swim safety while developing their love of the water through a 30-minute continuous lesson.
Learning to swim at Goldfish Swim School-Garden City has helped our daughter learn to swim better and safer through:
- Creating a consistent practice time to enhance her skills and increase her confidence in the water.
- Using water toys are used to make learning-to-swim fun.
- Offering Family Swim nights on Friday evenings since family play time can also reinforce swimming confidence.
- Keeping the little swimmers motivated through recognizing progress in swimming by rewarding the kids with ribbons. And, I like that they make a pretty big deal about moving up to the next level. My mini me just “graduated” from Glider 2 to Glider 3!
Everyone in your family should know how to swim. Now, before the summer really begins is the perfect time to learn to swim so that you and your kids are safe in the water all summer long. Trust me, having a confident, safe swimmer while having fun on the weekends or during family vacations makes swimming a lot more fun and less stressful.
