If you told me five years ago that I’d be taking nine different supplements before breakfast, eating sardines for a mid-morning snack, and being genuinely excited about my gut health, I would’ve laughed. But here we are in 2026, and I’ve finally accepted what every frequent flyer, working mom, wife, and woman with thinning hair eventually learns: you can’t pour from an empty cup. And honestly, my cup was bone dry.

The bump taught me that investing in myself isn’t selfish—it’s essential.

Why I’m Done Running on Fumes

I’m 41, managing a full-time career, raising two daughters, and running this site while traveling for work and pleasure multiple times a year. On paper, I’m “doing it all.” In reality? My hair was thinning and breaking. My energy was crashing, and I was constantly having some sort of gut issue.

Something had to give, and it wasn’t going to be my ambitions, my family time, or my next trip.

So, I decided to take my health more seriously. I take my work deadlines and my family’s birthday celebrations just as seriously. This isn’t about perfection, although I strive for it, or about some 30-day transformation challenge. This is about building a wellness routine that actually works when you’re living a full, complex, beautiful life that doesn’t fit into a neat little box.

Because here’s the thing: the bump isn’t just about motherhood, it’s about the journey of showing up for yourself so you can show up for everything else.

The Wake-Up Call: When Your Body Starts Sending Invoices

I’m going to keep it real. I wasn’t prioritizing my health as much as I should have. I was powering through work, skipping meals, skipping workouts when work got hectic, and wondering why my hair looked thinner every time I looked in the mirror. I blamed it on stress. On aging. Even  on “just how life is right now.”

But then I started noticing:

  • My hair wasn’t just thinning, it was breaking
  • My gut was constantly uncomfortable, even when I ate clean
  • My energy levels were unreliable
  • My focus throughout the day was suffering
  • I felt exhausted, even after a good night’s sleep

I realized I’d been running my body like a rental car; pushing it hard without maintenance, assuming it would just … keep going.

Spoiler alert: It won’t.

ActivatedYou Morning Complete gut health supplement for busy moms
My go-to gut health drink that I’ve been sharing on TikTok—game-changing prebiotics, probiotics, and greens in one scoop.

My Supplement Schedule: What I Take and Why It Matters

I’m not a doctor (obviously, check with yours before copying my routine), but after doing my research, speaking with my healthcare providers, and focusing on my specific goals: immune support, heart health, gut health, hair growth, brain function, and sustained energy, here’s what is working for me.

Morning Routine: The Foundation

20 Minutes Before Breakfast:

  • The Genius Brand Genius Mushrooms

This is my immune and cognitive power move. I came across these from Trina Small, who posted about them on Instagram. She said she felt like she could build a rocket. Of course, I was sold! These aren’t your average mushrooms; we’re talking Lion’s Mane, Reishi, and Cordyceps. For someone who’s constantly in airports, handling stress, and trying to retain information from work and school, this blend supports mental clarity, immune defense, and sustained energy without the jitters.

With Breakfast

  • ActivatedYou Morning Complete – My gut health hero. I mentioned these on TikTok before, and it’s been a game-changer. This powerhouse drink includes prebiotics, probiotics, greens for energy, and additional nutrient blends for metabolism, stress support, and healthy blood sugar levels. If your gut isn’t happy, nothing else works right, not your skin, your energy, not even your immune system. The only catch? It’s a bit pricey – $69. I’m actually considering switching to Bloom Greens, which covers most of the same benefits and is almost half the price.
  • MegaFood Omega 3-6-9 – For heart health, brain function, inflammation control, and yes, even hair health. Essential fatty acids are essential for a reason.
  • MegaFood CoQ10 – Supports cellular energy, heart health, and combats oxidative stress. Think of it as your mitochondria’s best friend.
  • MegaFood Vitamin D3 5,000 IU +K2 – Especially crucial during winter months for immune support. If you’re not getting daily sunshine like me because you’re tied to your chair, you need this.
  • MaryRuth’s Daily Liquid Hair Formula – Biotin, folate, and other hair-supporting nutrients in liquid form for better absorption.

Evening Routine: Repair and Restore

With Dinner:

Before Bed:

Metagenics HerWellness Recharge Overnight with Magnesium Glycinate – This, plus Ashwagandha, has been a game-changer for sleep quality, muscle recovery after my Peloton workouts, stress management, and heart health.

Meal prepping has become non-negotiable when you’re chasing 80 grams of protein a day.

Beyond Pills: The Lifestyle Shifts That Actually Stick

The Protein Obsession is Real

I’ve been a pescatarian for a few years now after dabbling in veganism and vegetarianism. Recently, I’ve been reading more and more that women my age need at least 80 grams of protein daily. Why? It will help me achieve and maintain my optimal weight goals, as well as support muscle retention, hair health, sustained energy, and metabolic support. That’s … a lot harder than it sounds when you don’t eat meat.

Enter: sardines. Yes, sardines. Almost daily. I sautee them in a mix of onions, bell peppers, garlic, and more. It takes me back to my childhood when my mom would whip them up with some grits. Who knew the health benefits then?

My version of a restaurant-quality poke bowl—packed with protein and actually delicious enough to eat for breakfast.

I’ve also been recreating restaurant favorites at home, like Sweetgreen’s Harvest Bowl, but with salmon instead of chicken. Tuna poke bowls for breakfast? absolutely. It’s not always glamorous, but it’s effective.

Working Out Smarter, Not Just Harder

I use the Peloton app at home with my favorite instructors: Jess Sims, Tunde, and Rebecca Kennedy. Strength training sessions, plus cardio, and of course, stretching. No commute to a gym, no childcare logistics, just me (and my 5-year-old on occasion), and instructors who push me without the pressure of a packed class or gazing eyes.

Traveling without Sabotaging Progress

I travel frequently, and I’ve learned a few non-negotiables:

  • I have lounge access and use it strategically for balanced meals
  • If an airport doesn’t have a lounge, I eat at home before heading out
  • I’m not eating expensive, and more than likely, unhealthy airport food; I planahead or wait for quality options
  • I pack my supplements so I never miss a dose

How This Shows Up in My Real Life

As a Mom

When I’m not constantly exhausted with brain fog, I’m more present. That’s a no-brainer. I can help both my kids with their needs

As a Wife

Let’s keep it real—when you feel good physically, it impacts everything else. Energy, mood, confidence, intimacy. Taking care of my health isn’t selfish; it’s essential for showing up in my marriage.

At Work and School

Managing a full-time career in healthcare quality while pursuing my MBA requires serious cognitive function. The brain-supporting supplements (mushrooms, omega-3s, and magnesium) and consistent protein intake have made a noticeable difference in my focus and retention.

As a Content Creator and Traveler

Clear skin, healthy hair, sustained energy, and feeling good in my body make showing up on camera and experiencing new destinations so much more enjoyable. I’m not just going through the motions—I’m actually living these experiences.

The Beauty in the Bump: The Unexpected Gift of Prioritizing Yourself

Here’s what I didn’t expect: the real “bump” in this journey wasn’t the challenge of adding supplements or meal prep to my already packed schedule. It was the realization that I’ve been treating my wellness like an afterthought; something I’d get to “when things slow down.”

Things don’t slow down. They never do.

The bump was recognizing that I’d been waiting for permission to prioritize myself … without the guilt. Permission that was never coming because no one was going to hand it to me.

So, I took it!

And now? I am on a journey to achieve stronger, healthier hair. My gut is happier, and even my energy levels have improved. I’m sleeping better (as best as I can witha 5-year-old next to me), focusing sharper, and showing up more fully in every area of my life. At least as much as I can.

The beauty isn’t just in the physical results, though those are nice. The beauty is in the journey of learning that investing in yourself isn’t indulgent. It’s essential. It’s the bump that teaches you that you can’t show up powerfully for others if you’re running on empty.

Taking charge of my health in 2026; one workout, one supplement, one protein-packed meal at a time.

Your Turn: How to Start Your Own Wellness Journey Today

Taking charge of my health in 2026 isn’t about becoming a different person. It’s about becoming the best version of the person I already am, one supplement, one Peloton class, one protein-packed meal at a time.

If you’re reading this and thinking, “I should probably take better care of myself,” let this be your sign. You don’t need to overhaul your entire life. Start with one thing. Maybe it’s adding a quality probiotic. Maybe it’s committing to three workouts a week. Maybe it’s finally addressing that hair loss you’ve been ignoring.

Whatever it is, start.

Because the life you’re building—the career, the family, the travel, the dreams—deserves a healthy, energized, glowing you at the center of it.

Have you revamped your wellness routine this year? What’s working (or not working) for you? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear your journey.
