Have you ever read one of Roald Dahl’s books? Roald Dahl is one of my 10-year-old daughter’s favorite authors. We bonded over a few of his books, like James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, and of course, The Witches! The latter was special since the debut of the movie. We watched the old and new versions. If you check out some of his books, you’ll notice that he has a knack for storytelling and creates incredible imagery with his words. It’s one of the many reasons we look forward to Roald Dahl Story Day.

What Does the Lesson Include?

The first part of lesson includes a book report sheet. First, encourage the kids to choose one of Roald Dahl’s incredible stories, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, and Matilda. Once they’ve selected the book, have them read it before filling out the details on the book report sheet.

  • The book report sheet includes a space for the name of the book, the author’s name, and the rating that your child gives it based on what they liked and didn’t like while reading it.
  • Roald Dahl creates such engaging books that you can expect to see your child giving it an excellent rating!
  • A special section allows individuals to talk about what the story entails while providing names of characters and other important information. Kids can choose their favorite character, listing some of the different reasons they chose that character as their favorite. For example, the character may have had a silly personality or made the book more interesting with the things they did throughout it.

Encouraging Creative Writing and Drawing

The Roald Dahl Story Bucket List & Book Report encourages creative writing and drawing with various prompts. For example, children can draw the main character from the story, discuss their favorite parts of the story, and let you know if they’d recommend the book to other people or not based on how interesting it was to them.

When you’re encouraging creative writing and drawing, you’re igniting a passion inside your children that allows them to think outside the box. They can get their creative juices flowing while carefully drawing different parts of the story and then writing things out in a thoughtful way. In addition, it helps them expand their vocabulary and improve their ability to create sentences in a way that makes the most sense.
