Growing up, my sisters and I frequented Liberty Science Center. We loved all of the hands-on exhibits that allowed us to feed our curiosity. Of course, when Beauty and the Bump was invited to spend an afternoon busting myths with our Momtrends friends we accepted. This was not just any visit to Liberty Science Center, it was to experience the new MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition that debuted on February 18, 2017.
If you’re familiar with the MythBusters show, you already know that myth busting is a lot of hard work and can require lots of energy. Before we headed out for some myth busting fun, we enjoyed lunch while keeping ourselves entertained with the provided tabletop activities. After we were fueled up, we headed to the 4th floor where the MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition was located.
Anyone can dodge a paintball, right?
Myth Confirmed, Busted or Plausible
The MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition allows visitors of all ages to explore and participate in hands-on activities that let them explore the scientific method. During our visit, we were able to watch a live science demonstration busting myths related to human reaction time and momentum. The myth we had the opportunity to watch was: Anyone can dodge a paintball.
The son of my fellow blogging mama at Dellah’s Jubilation volunteered himself to test out this hypothesis. The live demonstration taught us that although it is plausible for someone to dodge a paintball, the success of someone dodging it depends on things like time and distance.
Our daughter enjoyed watching this myth get bust, and could not wait to take a peep into The Blueprint Room where relics from old MythBusters experiments were displaced. From there, we headed to The Workshop, which is the perfect place for curious kids to learn and put their scientific skills to the test. We could not get our daughter to leave this portion of the MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition. Her favorite was Running in the Rain where she was able to test whether running or walking in the rain will keep you drier. My husband’s favorite was The Cliffhanger.
Illusion: Nothing Is as It Seems
Before we knew it, we had spent nearly two hours at this exhibit, and there was still more to see like the new Illusion: Nothing Is as It Seems exhibit. The installations in this exhibit are designed to test human perception and sensory deception. They installations were designed by Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin.
We Can’t Wait to Visit Again!
We had so much fun visiting Liberty Science Center to experience the new MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition and Illusion: Nothing Is as It Seems exhibits. We cannot wait to get back. What was even better was that I was able to share this experience with my family. It is a wonderful feeling to be able to share something with my husband and daughter that brought me joy as a kid. I was even able to convince them to get them to take a crawl through the Touch Tunnel. I cannot believe it is still there after all of these years.
