With March being National Reading Month, it is the perfect
time to pick up a book to explore your love for reading again, that is, of
course, if you’ve lost it or just haven’t had the time.  It’s also a great time to instill the
importance of reading in your children.
As you know, one of my 30 Before 30 goals is to read at
least 12 books.  So far, this month, I’ve
finished my seventh.  Mini me also loves
to read and be read to.  Yes, she thinks
she can read. She tries to read to her dad and to my mom when they visit the
library. It’s cute.  This month,
coincidentally during National Reading Month, mini me got her very own library
card (Thanks Mom!).
I’m going to use this time to share the books that both
myself and mini me have been reading lately.

What is Mini Me Reading Right now?

I Love My Hair by Natasha Anastasia

I think it’s important for mini me to read books that reflect what she sees daily when she looks at herself, me, and other people in her family. I chose I Love My Hair for her because she needs to know and learn to love her hair for what it is, and she recently chopped off a chunk of hair on the right side of her head. At her age, she did not care.

Dancing in the Wings by Debbie Allen

Mini me loves to dance! I would show you a video, but I’m still not comfortable with putting out her image on the internet, so you’re just going to have to believe me! I purchased Dancing in the Wings by Debbie Allen taking into consideration her love for dancing. You should see her trying to do ballet, it’s so freaking cute!

Something Beautiful by Sharon Dennis Wyeth
Something Beautiful follows a little girl living in the city as she searches for something beautiful. I chose this book because it will teach mini me that she has the power to create her own beauty and bring it into her own life. The illustrations in this book are amazing, too!

Brown Bear and Friends Board Books Gift Set by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carl
We received this gift set for mini me at our baby shower. To date, these books remain her favorite. We read them to her so much (at her request) that now she opens the books, reads aloud what she thinks and/or remembers the story in the books. The Brown Bear and Friends Board Books Gift Set includes: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?; Polar Bear, Polar Bear,What Do You Hear?; and Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See?
It can be purchased on Amazon.com for $15.72

Best Children’s Books

As for me, I’ve just finished reading Krik? Krak! by Edwidge Dandicat.  Today, I started reading The Help; I purchased it on my iPhone to read while I’m commuting to work. I also picked up The Secret Life of Bees.  I bought both books because I’ve seen the movies, and more often than not, books are better than the movie. We’ll see!  You can check the other books I’ve read on the widget stationed on the right hand column.
